Re: 1989 cbr 600F fuel injection transfer

of course it can be done, but why do u want to? sorry to rain on your parade, but the amount of $$ ull spend getting the thing running right is def much more than u'd spend on a newer bike w/ FI already on it. heres a list of the major things u would need to sort out. there r tons more little things too that i dont feel like typing:

    1. throttle body spacing - the 929RR cylinders are farther apart than the 600F ones, so ud need to fix this somehow. most carb assemblies unbolt and can be spaced different, but after looking at the parts fiche, i doubt throttle bodies come apart.
    2. engine management - the FI is hardwired into a bikes ECU. theres no way u could just wire the 900rr ECU and expect the bike to run. timing would be way off and all those other sensors prob wouldnt work either. this prob lends itself to running a stand-alone FI system, which means tons of $$$ and some interesting wiring. works great on tuner imports, but not so well when u cant carry a laptop on ure bike.
    3. fuel metering - even if u could get the 929rr ECU working, the fuel curve would be way off. now go drop 300$+ on a powercommander, wire it properly, and then spend another 500$ on some dyno tuning sessions.

it may never run right because the 929RR injectors could be too big for the small 600F motor. oh, and ull lose a ton of torque by running huge throttle bodies as opposed to small 600F carbs, esp since ud prob have to ditch the airbox and run pod airfilters. a lot changed on motorcycles from 1989 to 2000 when Honda put FI on their 929RR. honestly, the old 'Cane was a great bike in its day, but attempting to mod it over the top like this is well beyond its design specs. that motor is fragile by todays standards and i bet ud produce minimal extra power.

i worked a bit w/ a college club that fit a FI system to an old FZR600 motor (newer than '89 actually) and it cost em about $2000 to get it running well. same goes w/ a buddy of mine that fit GSXR1000 throttle bodies to his Nissan240. he got his engine management system for way cheap and still spent over $1500.

oh, n abad is def going to suggest u introduce yourself in the new members section
