I have an idea...let me know what you think

so I was thinking of making an f3-f4i fairings conversion. first off, to anyone who has done it, how did the stock gauges fit with the new fairings?

okay heres my idea. I wanna buy racing f4i fairings, and do something like this for the headlights.

sorry about the link to the vid, I have pics but it wont allow me to attach files.

instead of having the bulbs going up I'd have them go the same sideways- angle as the stock headlights. I was thinking of putting 4 lights....but the f3 only has 1 headlight so just 1 connection for the bulb, since I need 4 would I have to run the others straight from the battery?

That depends what kind of lights you install, i.e. how much current they will draw.  If they are the 55W type then yeah, I would definately run a good feed directly from the battery and use a relay to control the lights.  Are you gonna have high beams or all lows?

I'm thinking all lows. what i was thinking is rerouting the low and high beam cables and make it work this way.  the two low lights be on all the time, then put the the top two lights come on when i go to high beam....it's just an idea, but for that look good i would put a mesh screen and put regular oem bulbs and not hid or anything like that. and since I have 4 lights, i don't think the mesh screen would affect the amount of light going out by much.

stupid question.....what tool would you recommend for cutting the big round holes where the lights would go on the fairing?

Re: I have an idea...let me know what you think

If its an even surface the best bet would be to use that (uhm, sh!t what do you call it) that attachment that you put on a drill to cut big holes in plywood or drywall or something.  It looks like cup with serrated edges.  They sell all kinds of sizes.  If not you can use a jigsaw.  I prefer the powered version.

I think rerouting cables would be a big pita.  Not worth the trouble.  If its gonna be only 2 lights on highs and 2 on low wiring then you might actually pull it off all stock.  Just check the gauge of the stock wires and see if they're up to the task.  Just a word of caution, some people reported problems with Honda's charging systems once they significantly increased the power load.  And you're quadrupling the original!

Re: I have an idea...let me know what you think

why doesn't anybody exploits all that extra energy that escapes through the ground? i mean, it wouldn't be hard or expensive to put a good quality zener diode and construct a system that allows the flow of all that extra electricity. and that way extra devices won't damage the r/r.

    just a thought

and you were thinking of a hole saw, fulcrum

The stock reg/rect is junk and wont handle the extra load very well. Look up a TourMax(japanese made) heavy duty Reg/Rect with the big heat sync. I had excellent luck with them on two different bikes which were chronic battery eaters before hand. Handled all my accessories even at lower rpms, very impressive.

As for the guage cluster and lighting, check out these two write up on that exact topic. It should help your decision making process
