    Owner of a 1989 Honda CBR600F has issues =(

     Hi guys and gals,

    Newbie here.

I just purchased a CBR600F the other day from a friend as my first bike, paid 1000 for it.  From what he told me it was running at the last time he used it (1 year ago roughly)

After picking it up yesterday my brother and myself drained the old gas, changed the battery.  The bike pretty much started right up idled well for its age and after not running for a year (not to metion 43,000 miles).

Here is where the problem lies - after taking it around the block, i get a call that he shut the bike off to talk to a friend, and now it wont start back up, we did start/stop the bike a few times to listen and check for a few rattles and whatnot, but we are no mechanics by any means. =P

So checked the battery, swapped it with another battery out of his other motorcycle (08 Ninja) and it still does not seem to want to start.  Starter does not click at all, which wants me to lean towards its a bad starter.  I did check the batteries at the terminals and had 12 volts, and at the regulator it had 12 volts I believe.  I did use the troubleshooting guide on this site, and tried to read some other threads with similar problems.

So I'm at a complete loss, so if anyone has any suggestions on what else I could try, or recommend a good shop to bring it to be checked out (In the Rhode Island area) I would appreciate it!

I don't have any pictures currently, but its Yellow, with a Yosh pipe.

    Thanks much,

    Justin P

Did you clean out the carbs to? You also might want to check the spark plugs.

Thanks for the replies guys, just been so busy lately haven't had a chance to respond.

Anyways, I did end up bringing the bike to a shop and it was repaired,  it was a bad/dirty electrical connection, along with other stuff that needed to be fixed (rear wheel bearing, new rear tire, fork seals, new chain, plugs, oil) perhaps even some other stuff that I don't care to remember after paying for it. ;)

To make a long story short, I ended up practicing in a parking lot for a few hours with my younger brother making fun of my putting around @ 20 mph.  Brought the bike back to the house, shut it off and let it sit.  After coming back to it a few hours later to start it up to park in the backyard, it doesn't seem like it was getting any fuel, I mean you could try and flood it and no gas smell whatsoever.  The engine cranked but never kicked over.  Then after loading it back up on the trailer to bring back to the shop (fun times) it is doing the same thing originally, no cranking at all.  So probably some more fun to deal with.

Eventually when I get it back finally I'm going to fix some minor cosmetic damage and rattle can the scraped/damaged areas and reclear them.  And have a decent looking bike to continue learning on.

Maybe I'll post some pictures eventually.

    Thanks again,

    Justin

    Update:

Well, just called the shop... so I guess it was the starter solenoid which was causing it not to crank, as far as it not getting spark, it ended up also being the CDI box, they said it would be about 500 for the 450 for the part new, and after the initial heart attack I ended up surfing around and finding one used for about 100 shipped.

Hopefully this is all the money I have to throw at this thing, atleast for awhile.  It is starting to get painful. =p

    Thanks for listening,

If you hear anyone needing a CDI box for a 87-90 CBR 600F Hurricane I got two good ones for less than that.
