    Gear Questions Girls!

Hey girls! I was wondering about textile jackets. I have a nice leather jacket, but I must admit, this past summer I didn't ride as much as I wanted to because I didn't want to wear that jacket in traffic with the heat. I was wondering what you are all wearing. I rode one day with just a sweatshirt and my boyfriend was pissed! He told me that I had better have a riding jacket on at all times. Of course, the same goes for him LOL . I just got a bunch of money from my family for my birthday so that I could pick out a lighter weight jacket for the warmer days. I plan on searching all the discounted places like Newenough , but just wondered what you all wear. Also looking for recommendations for gloves and footwear too if you have any. I have tiny hands. Any input would be awesome! Thanks Gals!!!

    Re: Gear Questions Girls!

Regardless of weather I personally ALWAYS wear my full leathers.  I do wear a tank top or bathing suit top underneath.  When its been very hot out if you wet your t-shirt down under the leathers and open your vents you should be cooler.  I have a few ladies in my area that wear those mesh style jackets for summer riding.  Not sure how great its gonna be to go down with one on but they certainly are cooler for the summer time riding.

For boots I have Martino's but they really aren't tall enough........I want more ankle protection so I am buying a pair of all weather race type boots.  We had a guy here have a horrible accident and almost get his ankle torn off.  Really made me double think my footwear.

For summer riding gloves I have an old pair that are actually a bit tight and they are Aurora and are a basic black longer style glove but have no real padding and are just leather.  My better pair of riding gloves are armoured across the knuckles and are Teknic again a longer style and are size XXS.  I have an all weather pair for winter riding and again they are Teknic and fit small (for a changea) and they are size S

I love my Shift mesh jacket for the summertime.  As for gloves, I have tall fingers, so I can't help you there.

For boots, I have Spidi boots.  They're nice street/race boots and very well priced.

I've been wearing a Joe Rocket Phoenix (mesh) for years, and its good for everything but the coldest days! It has a zip-in liner that is waterproof, and they make pants to match (black), and gloves. Cortech has a similar jacket, so does Icon.

For boots, I prefer my Redwing steel toe safety boots. They are a hiking-boot style that's over the ankle - women's sizes! Before that, I just wore my combat boots (real style, I know..)

    Re: Gear Questions Girls!

I've got a mesh Joe Rocket jacket.  It's a newer design and has breathers in it, so even when it gets really hot, you've got those cool extra vents.  As a lady with larger sized... upper half, it is extremely difficult to find jackets that fit accordingly.  I would be a Medium if not for my, you know.  Since I do have larger ones, I am an X-Large, but then the jacket is wayyy to loose around my tummy (even after pulling in the side straps), and it makes me look, well, like im expecting.  The awesome thing about Joe Rocket is that, if your body is like mine, the jackets fit you perfectly.  On the top and near the stomach.

As for pants, I have ICON chaps.  They go over your jeans and other garments, so it's not as hot as full cover pants.  I live in sunny Cali, so all I have is warm-weather gear.

I have riding boots (I forget which brand).  I know I should wear them, but honestly, I feel most comfortable in a pair of tennis shoes.

Can any of you ladies suggest other warm weather riding pants?

Tennis shoes <cringe> protect those ankles and feet!

Go to Wal Mart and get hiking boots. There are tennis shoe "styles" that are both comfortable and good looking. They are along the back wall with the work boots, and there are women's sizes.

    Re: Gear Questions Girls!

Haha.. I know I'm being completely stupid about the shoes thing.  It's just that I learned how to ride a bike 2 years ago in India.  Over there, all I used was sandals, shorts, a tank top, and no helmet!  I know it sounds completely off, but the max KPH you can go over there is 50 (equivalent to about 25-30 mph over here).  I'm just getting used to riding with shoes and not sandals, and a helmet.  But thanks for the info on the tennis shoes/boots.  I have to go and pick me up a pair soon!

    What about pants? Any suggestions?

Not sure where there's a Cycle Gear in San Diego (it's there), but there's one in San Marcos off the 78 near the 15.

The website can hook you up to location.
