    Xbox 360 Arcade

I'm a PC gamer and will continue to play my "serious" games on my gaming rig. But, I've been thinking about getting a some sort of console for stuff like football, basketball, racing and other games that are more powder puff stuff that I can play with my daughter. I've kind of looked around and found the redesigned PS2 (which I understand still outsells the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii combined) and was kinda thinking about that, but then I saw that the 360 Arcade is getting a price cut to $199. Anybody have any opinions? Remember, I'm not going to be playing COD 4 or any of those kinds of games on it. It's going to be in the living room connected to the 42 LCD (1080p).

Sugi, as I was reading your post, I was going to suggest PS3.  But once you mentioned the word "daughter", I'm going to suggest a Wii.  The reasons I suggest this is:

    1) its so much more user friendly and intuitive

    2) its FUN for clowning around

Case and point.... I have a PS3.  I bought my daughter a PS2 Dora the Explorer game.  She eventually got used to using the controller and understanding how to play but it took a while and frustrated her in the process.  Last Mother's Day I got my wife a Wii.  Because the controls are very much like how you would really perform an action (e.g. sports), my daughter was kicking all our a$$es in bowling within minutes.  She no longer wants to play the Dora game (thank god!!! Smile)

Actually, there's another factor that I didn't mention here. It's the wife effect. She can't stand gaming and even though I don't game all that much she calls herself a gaming widow. What irritates me is that I could be sawing on something in the garage for twice as long as I sit and play Oblivion on any given night and not get in trouble. WTF? Anyway, I agree that a Wii would probably be best, but if I spend that much on a "we don't need another thing to play games on in the house" there's going to be trouble.

    Re: Xbox 360 Arcade

The 360 as a gaming console is fantastic.  And the online community is the best in the industry.  But I've had to return mine for repairs twice in about 1.75 years.  I didn't have to pay anything to get it fixed, but this is the first time I've ever had this kind of problem with anything electronic, and that has me more than slightly disgruntled.  Furthermore, no one I know who owns an Xbox 360 has avoided having to return it for repairs at some point or another, and many have had to return it multiple times as I have.  The failure rate on these consoles is astronomical and well documented (google, you-tube, etc).

Because of this, even though I still very much enjoy playing mine, I recommend not getting an Xbox 360.  Your console will become an over-sized paperweight unless you're willing to pay another ~$100 per year (give or take) to have it fixed.  And the repair process takes about a month.

Wow, that's some pretty bad luck. I'll steer clear of Bad Billy's console then.

    As for the Wii,

    *Damn*

I was checking out the prices of Wii systems on Ebay and threw a bid in on one. I was sure I wasn't going to win, but... uh oh. I got a bundle with the 5 sport games, 9 Wii play games, two remotes and two nunchucks. The wife is gonna be pissed now...

    Re: Xbox 360 Arcade

I'm still addicted to BF2 on my PC, haven't touched the PS2 since I got the game.  My brother bought the Xbox 360 to play GTA4...loves it.  (Even though he had the dreaded "Red Ring of DEATH"...which he fixed himself).

If your wife doesn't complain if you are working on something in the garage for twice as long as any gaming adventure, the solution is simple.  Put your PC or game console in the garageBig Smile  That way she won't know because we all know that women aren't allowed to enter the Man-garage area...or is that just my house.  (Yeah...I sleep on the couch alotCrying...what's it to ya!Wink)

It's kinda funny you should say that. I actually have my gaming rig in the garage. It's older, but I've been playing BF2 on it and I gotta agree it rocks! My latest excuse to be in the garage has been reassembling my bike. I think she's starting to get suspicious though... hahahahaha!

Anyone play Okami on the Wii? I heard it was highly rated and was thinking of getting it.

    Re: Xbox 360 Arcade

I have all 3 "nextgen" systems and a gaming rig for a pc and a highend laptop.

let me just say there all OVERATED!!! lol..

seriosuly though... the 360 has the best online experience. and the best game library, but Ive killed 3 of them. Yeah Micro$oft has replaced the bad ones, but still a hassle.

The PS3 is a rock solid system, but not alot in the way of community on it. the games library, is not as good as the 360 although there are a couple of good games on it you can only get on the ps3. I mainly bought the ps3 to hook up to the 55" 1080p television for the bluray player. Also the web browser on it is better then what comes on the wii, but not as much fun.

The Wii. is a blast when people are over and im entertaining. bowling is an all time favorite, along with golf etc. I just picked up a wii fit to get my ass back in shape for next spring when i buy my new bike. Let me just say that that game is an evil ***. Im 6'1" and 220 pounds. im mostly muscle, but ive had a few drinks over the few years and also for the past few years with traveling as much as i have with work, eating out every night and day on the company dollar, I gained a little im working on losing. The damn wii fit! I step on it, and it was like.. OOOOOOoooooooooooo.. wtf mang!!! damn thing told me i was fat!!!!

I Enjoy them all for different reasons. i think for you and the daughter to play, you bought the right one. Go out and get the wii fit, your wife will love it. seriously. damn think makes you hoola hoop and shtuff.

    Re: Xbox 360 Arcade

I was surprised as you with the Wii. It kicked my *** and I wasn't expecting that. The wife will play (and she has a good time with it), but she doesn't exactly love it. Then again, it's a far cry from being openly antagonistic towards gaming... hahahahaha!

Ooooo... speaking of Far Cry, I got Far Cry 2 on my radar!
