    tales from the heat.....

the part between ****   **** doesn't need to be read.

So...this was my first time ever riding in extremely hot conditions. yahoo says temp is 91...

    **************************************************************************

i took my bike to school today..and man oh man...was it a painfully hot experience. i had no problems getting there. when i got there, there was a guy warming up his gixxer and he was looking at me like i was an alien or something, maybe he was checking out my new decals and cool red-spike windscreen bolts. newhos, the guy was not driving  a cbr so he doesnt matter.

when i was parking    my bike stalled for no reason whatsoever, it just died and then the lights came on. I thought it was cool cuz i needed to turn it off anyways. so i go to my class, and then come back and try to turn my bike on and it just doesn't turn on...i thought maybe it was the battery...no it wasn't the battery, so i had to put the fairings and seat back on in front of everybody who was walking by. then i stepped away and thought about it for a sec.."mmm, what could it be?"  i thought. an idea came to me, maybe is the thingy where you put the key, so i put the key in it doesnt turn on, obviously, then move my handlebars and it turns on, "hurray." moved my handlebars the other way and it turned off..crap! okay, can i ride all the way home without moving the handle bars in the direction it makes the bike die?.....NO!!!! CRAP!!!...

its 2:pm, 100 degrees. the parking lot doesn't have any shade and my bike is hot, and it doesn't turn on. im wearing my cool red jacket and awesome orange helmet so no one see's my face, but im sweating like a pig. 'okay let me try again but I'll just move the cables on the bottom part where you put the key," i thought. hurray, if i put pressure on the cables it stays on, but why? i kneel down and check it out and see the glue that held the cables, which complete the circuit so the bike turns on, had completely evaporated! it didn't melt, it evaporated. so the fix is very simple, just put something holding the cable down so it touches the metal thing so it completes the circuit...easy!!! I'll use my cool bracelet....wait, i didn't bring it today! CRAP! oh yeah, i can use my shoelaces...wait my shoes dont have those annoying things, which btw did you know you'll spend a total amount of time of 2 weeks tying your shoes? neways, my shoes dont have shoelaces. crap...i know I'll ask my science prof. for some electric tape. but it's 2:30 and his class gets out at 4:00...so I'll just sit around and wait it out. 3:30 hits the clock, my phone rings...."sorry to tell you but your dog just died," the woman on the phone said. "great," i thought," and my bike died too. what else will die today?" so i wait for my prof. and he doesn't have any tape. I asked for a piece of string so i can do somethign with it.  I go to my bike and try to fix it, i tried using a rock, a piece of paper , meanwhile all these feaking beautiful girls just walk buy and look at me and i feel like im being judged.  then this guy who was parked 2 spots away from me comes by and he plugs in his homemade stereo and takes off revving his engine thinking he's so freaking cool. but he's a loser cuz revving your engine for attention is really pathetic.I felt ashamed when i saw he was driving an f4. So...I'm there, with my jacket and helmet on trying to fix my bike, and the sun is making me desperate and angry. by some miracle i tightened the knot and the circuit got completed. yay!!!!! i throw water on my corbin seat, and put on gloves and touch the levers and they burned my fingers.....i ride to a shaded area and wait for my bike to cool. then take off and only encounted 3 red lights out of 15 traffic lights. oh yeah...my kickstand was burried 1 inch into the pavement!

    ****************************************************************************

so here's my question.,...how do i guard myself against the sun? i don't want parts melting and malfunctioning. now i gotta fix that connection that melted, I'll try using electric tape and some of that glue that ppl use with the small glue pistol, the one that comes in a small cleared and large cylinder, to fix my current circuit problem. but how do i guard myself against the sun when parking in such hot and sunny area?

    Re: tales from the heat.....

hmmm, need more info!?  Been out in 100 degree weather and nothing melted, and its been in the high 90's here all week. Other then my lack of comfort, no other side effects..........and there should not be any glue holding your wires on. you should have plastic quick connections  on all wires leading to sensors and switches.  Un less the bike has been "modified" , in any event you should not find wires or cables held on with any glue or sutch.  Pictures of what you have identified as the problem will help a lot.  Some times words cant convey the message of the problem well enough.

as for the sinking kick stand , just jam somthing thin but strong enough to support the bike under the stand to give it a wider base, you can buy " pads" from lockhart phillips or others, or make your own. in a pinch you can  stomp a pepsi can and it will work fine( done this one on several occasions my self)

CBR929-jardine race can, down 1, polished frame and swing arm, wheels polished, HELI bars, Sargent seat, Puig racing screen

commuting on a VLX600 shadow for now, 60MPG!!! I punched out the baffles, so it has that V-twin snap and crackle that made H/D so infamous. Except this little scute is rice powered!!lol

    Re: tales from the heat.....

sorry im so used to working with computers that i think everything electrical is held together with silicone/glue....to be more precise,  if you look at the place where u insert your key, look at the bottom and you'll see a couple of cables, the cable that is closest to the clutch separated. I'll try to get a pic when i take off the fairings and try to fix it. right now is being held by a piece of cable wrapped around the handlebars. :P.
